Wellspring Saigon’s Student Council has become a cornerstone of student life. To some, it is the closest form of contact with the higher board members of the school. The Student Council pushes for quality-of-life adjustments, new and interesting events, and represents students’ voices as a whole. This all comes from people who have experienced and know most: students.

After an arduous Leader’s Camp week, a detailed voting campaign, and a brand-new inauguration in time for the Student Council debut, our new President and Vice President pair have been unveiled. Dương Tuệ Anh of 11.2 is Wellspring’s new Student Council President, assisted by Vice President Đỗ Phan Huyền An of 11.2. These esteemed WISers worked hard to earn these positions, and yet we still don’t know much about them. Let’s take a deep dive into some exclusive details about our new leaders.

As Huynh An puts it, this quote motivated her through every obstacle that stood between her and becoming a high-ranking member of the Student Council. Like most students, she struggled to find enough confidence to imagine herself accomplishing these amazing feats, yet she still powered through to today. Motivated by past leaders and future challenges, she plans to use her position and rank to make students’ voices a priority this school year. Huyen An plans to create a website where students can contribute to improving students’ quality of life, building on what our previous heads helped lay out. Lastly, she aims for the Student Council to have wonderful memories and friendships with each other, and for students to learn more encouragingly.

Every person must’ve been influenced by something or someone in their life, right? Maybe just a touch, a glance, a rush, or a dance. These tiny details of our life, though seemingly insignificant, can always have an impact on our values. Huyen An deems “La La Land” as the movie to represent her through its deep symbolism and unique way of setting up the story.

It’s often that great things require a great deal of time or passion, and details require even more. Perhaps that’s where Huyen An’s word “hustle” comes in. She states that by doing things in a hustling way, she could finish more things and create a better learning environment for students, reflecting energetic effort and work.

Ambitious: A word to describe passion, determination, and desire

This is the word Tue Anh chooses to describe herself with, and the word does her justice. As an 11th grader, she is now the president of the Student Council. To Tue Anh, the word “ambitious” not only represents achieving success, but also improving, finding motivation, and striving to become the best version of herself past all deadlines and stresses. Positioned at the highest rank in the Student Council, she hopes to create an open and supportive environment where students feel welcome to share their ideas and opinions. Like Huyen An, Tue Anh plans to listen attentively to students’ thoughts and build connections between committees, uniting the council to better reflect needs through activities.

Make no mistake, the title of “President of the Student Council” isn’t something that you decide to do on a whim. Yet that very decision could have been paved by, say, a favorite movie. Tue Anh’s movie of choice is “La La Land”, which you might’ve recalled from a later segment, but brings a whole new meaning. Falling into the deeper and more somber genre of film, she finds this movie one that moves her to tears. It also shows her appreciation for emotions and meaningful anecdotes, because sometimes life is simply sad.

Behind the serious exterior of being our leaders, Tue Anh and Huyen An are two teenage girls driven by purpose and a love for hard work. Every goal they pursue is solely rooted in a wish for progress, shaped beautifully by the fact that they are changing the very environment that made them. Their vision comes from a pure desire to see everyone flourish, reminding us that they are navigating this same student journey alongside us.
